The Municipality of Daanbantayan has extended a formal written invitation for The Thresher Shark Research and Conservation Group to conduct the Thresher Shark Project on Monad Shoal.   The Group is pleased to accept and is grateful for their support.  We endeavour to work closely with local government and are pursuing this study on their behalf.

The Thresher Shark Research and Conservation Group advised shark behaviour and ecology for  BBC producers on their Ocean and Deadly 60 series.

The Group has been approached by Tigress productions who have proposed producing a documentary film for Discovery Channel relating our work on thresher sharks. 

In a Memorandum of Agreement to advise, raise awareness and halt the over exploitation of thresher sharks by fisheries in the Batangas Bay area.  Forensics data has been assimilated from caught thresher sharks taken from fish markets.  Protection legislation from policy makers, the first of its kind in Philippine history, is being read and voted upon. 

Sun Star has published several articles relating the group’s work on Malapascua’s thresher sharks and continues to invite reports on the project’s progress.

In partnership with the GM’s office to promote thresher shark tourism in the Philippines.

Our conservation efforts were officially recognised and commended in a letter of thanks from Secretary Jose L. Atienza, JR on behalf of the Republic of the Philippines, “a partnership we look forward to continuing in the years to come”.

Engaged in a Memorandum of Agreement to conduct scientific research on thresher sharks throughout Philippine waters and develop species protection through the promotion of ecotourism. 

In partnership to develop site management protocols to protect Monad Shoal and promote the sustainable regeneration of critical thresher shark habitat while being sensitive to the economic needs of the dive tourism industry.

Our conservation efforts and forensic work was comprehensively documented and aired in Probe TV: Pating on prime time Channel 2 TV.

PDI published a controversial newspaper article following our keynote speech at the ‘Thresher Shark Forum’ on 2 April, 2008.  The article significantly contributed to the public’s awareness of issues relating the unsustainable fishing of thresher sharks in the Batangas area.

We continue to actively work to foster academic relationships with Philippine universities as well as ocean science departments worldwide.  Currently we have additional affiliations in Europe, North America, Africa the Caribbean and Asia.
